With 2 games left, one of which is against the Tuskers, we cannot afford to make any more mistakes.  From my comfy armchair, here is my opinion:

1. The Defense seems to man up only when they have to.

That’s not the way Dennis Green played or coaches.  That’s not the way the premiere defenses in the NFL play.  Consider these legendary Ds:

Purple People Eaters

Steel Curtain

The 1985 Bears

The Oakland Raiders of the late 60s and 70s.

The Doomsday Defense

What was their secret?  100% percent effort for the entire 60 minutes.  No mercy.  Keep pushing and pushing and pushing until you cant do it any more, and then pushing again.

The Redwoods D HAS to do that.  They must send a message of fear to every member of the opposing offense.  It took us two tries to take down Quinn last night, but that effort sealed the win.  Every member of the D has to have that same effort for the next Three Games (2 regular season, and the playoffs).

2. The offense needs to start rolling up points.

You have two able QBs.  You have a receiving core that could play in the NFL right now.  You have a running game.  Do something.  The line needs to give the QB time to set up.  The line needs to blow holes open for Ross.

But, Mr Gabriel (Yes, I know I called you Clifford Franklin last time), you have to hang on to that ball.  Yes, you are going to get get hit and yes, it’s going to hurt.  But that’s football.  Deal with it. If you can’t catch, then you aren’t a threat, and if you aren’t a threat and Cory can’t run, then you are not going to win.

Here is what Coach Green said about the 2-0 Tuskers.

“Florida is a solid team—they’re a fabulous team. They’ve got 10 players that have been in the Super Bowl and 40 players that have been in the NFL. Tatum Bell, Michael Pittman—those guys can really run the ball.”

Crum?  Phillips?  The way you played against the Sentinels, you could have plugged the holes in the Titanic.  Git ‘er done!

I am predicting an upset.

Let’s go, Redwoods!

The Redwoods begin the season on Oct. 17 against the New York Sentinels in the four-team UFL. Las Vegas and Orlando also have teams.

Fullback Ayanbadejo played nine seasons in the NFL, but not since 2006, and won a Super Bowl with Baltimore. His contract was terminated by the Bears in 2007 after he completed a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

Sams, a wide receiver, spent parts of five seasons in the NFL, mostly as a kick returner.

“There is a tremendous amount of raw talent on this California squad that just needs some finessing and the opportunity to show their abilities,” said Redwoods coach Dennis Green.

“I am anxious to begin training camp in Casa Grande in September where we can really get back to the basics of playing football and the fundamentals of what it takes to win ballgames.” In all, the Redwoods signed 15 offensive players, 15 on defense and one special-teamer.

Some of the other sports clubs in your area have the following names:  Warriors, 49ers, Raiders, Kings, Athletics, Giants, and Sharks.  What do you do?

Based on fan support and input, the UFL (United Football League – http://www.ufl-football.com) went with what was arguably one of the WEAKEST names for a professional sports organization.

They were christened the San Francisco Rockfish.

But wait, as the late Billy Mays once said, there’s more…

The UFL just rechristened the team as the Calfornia Redwoods.

I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking that naming your sports club after an animal is better than naming it after a plant.

So with the premiere season of the fledging UFL less than two months away, I present this site to you, the to be and would be fans of the California Redwoods.
