With 2 games left, one of which is against the Tuskers, we cannot afford to make any more mistakes.  From my comfy armchair, here is my opinion:

1. The Defense seems to man up only when they have to.

That’s not the way Dennis Green played or coaches.  That’s not the way the premiere defenses in the NFL play.  Consider these legendary Ds:

Purple People Eaters

Steel Curtain

The 1985 Bears

The Oakland Raiders of the late 60s and 70s.

The Doomsday Defense

What was their secret?  100% percent effort for the entire 60 minutes.  No mercy.  Keep pushing and pushing and pushing until you cant do it any more, and then pushing again.

The Redwoods D HAS to do that.  They must send a message of fear to every member of the opposing offense.  It took us two tries to take down Quinn last night, but that effort sealed the win.  Every member of the D has to have that same effort for the next Three Games (2 regular season, and the playoffs).

2. The offense needs to start rolling up points.

You have two able QBs.  You have a receiving core that could play in the NFL right now.  You have a running game.  Do something.  The line needs to give the QB time to set up.  The line needs to blow holes open for Ross.

But, Mr Gabriel (Yes, I know I called you Clifford Franklin last time), you have to hang on to that ball.  Yes, you are going to get get hit and yes, it’s going to hurt.  But that’s football.  Deal with it. If you can’t catch, then you aren’t a threat, and if you aren’t a threat and Cory can’t run, then you are not going to win.

I admire management and Dennis for not going with the same-old, same-old.  Some of these players have been given a second chance, and some *may* get a chance to play in the NFL.  It seems to me, especially in this economy, that if someone is offering you money to do something you love, you better a) do it the best you can, b) not complain, and c) be thankful you have a job.

I expected the UFL to look like the NFL in terms of action, and speed of play.  What I forgot, as I think many of you did, is that a team needs time to gel.  Last week, 8 players had to fit in to the offensive and defensive schemes with very little time.  Was it smooth?   No.  Did it work?  Look at the score.

I think that as the season progresses, the Redwoods will become a formidable opponent.  We will, however,  need that O-Line to protect McMahon.  He has some targets that can catch the ball.  He reminds me of Joe Montana and Steve Young in the 49ers heyday.

Crum and Phillips?  Stay healthy and teach the rest of the D-Line to move like you do.  I think you two were raised on a diet of Mean Joe Greene and Lawrence Taylor.

Well, that’s it for Week 2.  Let’s see if we can’t give the Tuskers their first loss of the season!

I am underwhelmed at what I saw.

I was flipping back and forth between NCAA and UFL games and I thought the level of competition was better in the NCAA.

If I understand the UFL correctly, these are men who played college ball, and were drafted by or played in the pros.  It didn’t look like it.

And what’s with this “no blitzing up the middle” rule?  Why don’t you just add a “3 hippopotamus count” instead?

If the UFL wants to be taken seriously, they are going to have to adopt the same rules as the NFL and get rid of those uniforms.

Some of the other sports clubs in your area have the following names:  Warriors, 49ers, Raiders, Kings, Athletics, Giants, and Sharks.  What do you do?

Based on fan support and input, the UFL (United Football League – http://www.ufl-football.com) went with what was arguably one of the WEAKEST names for a professional sports organization.

They were christened the San Francisco Rockfish.

But wait, as the late Billy Mays once said, there’s more…

The UFL just rechristened the team as the Calfornia Redwoods.

I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking that naming your sports club after an animal is better than naming it after a plant.

So with the premiere season of the fledging UFL less than two months away, I present this site to you, the to be and would be fans of the California Redwoods.

I am in the process of adding more features.  Your input and patience will help.

But did the league really have to base the premiere season uniform colors based on them?

Let's see…sky blue…not exactly a masculine color.  Only UCLA gets away with having powder blue, and we won't even talk about how they fare in football. 

The Green Grass?  Try shades closer to Philadephia Eagles Or Green Bay Packers Green instead.  Grass Green is a little to poofy for football.

Oh well, it's too late.  The uniforms have been showed and ordered.  We are stuck until next year.
